Descendants of German father:
That at the time of the child's birth, he was married to the child's mother or that at the time of the child's birth, he was not married to the child's mother born after 06/30/1993 and if a paternity acknowledgment has been made according to German law.
Descendants of German mother:
That at the time of the child's birth, she was married to the child's father born from 01/01/1975 or
That at the time of the child's birth, she was married to the father of the child born between 4/1/1953 and 12/31/1974, and the mother made a statement on the matter before a German authority or German representation in the period from 01/01/1975 to 12/31/1977 (receipt). It is not possible to make a declaration retroactively.
Legitimation valid according to German legislation of 06/30/1998
Conditions:
The son was born before 01/07/1993 and
The German father was not married to the non-German mother at birth and
Valid parternity recognition was made under German law and
The child's parents were married until 06/30/1998.
Declaration of intention to acquire German nationality
Conditions:
The son was born before 7/1/1993 and the German father was not married to the non-German mother, or only married her after 6/30/1998 and
Valid parternity recognition was made under German law and
The son had a legal stay in Germany for three years and
the declaration of paternity was filed before the son was 23 years old.
By marriage:
The foreign woman who married a German before 03/31/1953, will be able to apply for and acquire German citizenship.
By adoption:
Since 01/01/1977: A valid adoption under the German legislation of a minor by a German (the) nationality is granted from the effective date of adoption).
Since 9/1/1986: The child to be adopted cannot yet be 18 years old at the time of applying for adoption. A foreign woman who married a German before 3/31/1953 can apply for and acquire German citizenship.
